History of Wright’s Chapel Cemetery:

The present Wright’s Chapel Cemetery is one of the newer cemeteries of Echols County, having been established in the middle 1970’s.  It was consecrated on October 3, 1976 as part of the churches Centennial Celebration.  The land for the cemetery was donated to the church via a deed dated June 3, 1880 by Mr. Lewis J. Kinsey.   In fact, several members of the Kinsey family had been buried there in the middle and late 1800’s.  Several men of the church, under the leadership of Mr. Edgar Herring, tried to locate the old graves but were unable to find them.

 
           A. C. R. (Plunk) Herring was the first person buried in the cemetery in the 20^th century—on May 25, 1983.  Of those buried in the 19^th century, Nancy Carter Kinsey is the only one of whom we are sure.  She was the second wife of Lewis J. Kinsey, and the ancestor of many Echols County residents.  She died March 29, 1870, and a Memorial Marker was placed in the cemetery in July, 1980 by the Kinsey Reunion group.
